It is not simply buildings and landmarks that fascinate Shanel, but the contrasting cultural and societal practices that exist across the world. In spending time observing what could be labelled mundane, for Shanel, there is a constant source of satisfaction in watching how people from different cultures differ from their neighbours in other countries; this fascination driven by her desire to understand the inherent commonalities within all humans, despite cultural differences.

Boarding her first plane when she was 21 years old, Shanel took the trip by air when her mother treated her to a plane ticket to fly from London to Scotland for her 21st birthday. Since that journey, Shanel has travelled to over 60 countries across five continents, with her peak of travel being some 52 countries she travelled across within a year. With thousands of
